Swedish Midsummer

AS IT SHOULD BE

Midsummer. Just taste the word... is there anything better? Midsummer. The middle of summer - strawberries, food, pure bliss, the games and the magical midsummer night! With seven flowers under your pillow. When you bath at midnight, in a moment you wish would never end. At Destination Apelviken, we celebrate midsummer the traditional way. Classic Swedish midsummer, with no shortcuts. And the pickled herring? - You bet! As early as breakfast.

20 - 23 June 2024

Down below is a schedule of everything that will be happening during the midsummer weekend.

THURSDAY JUNE 20

23.00 | MIDNIGHT SWIM

Strong and brave late at night, more precisely at 23:00, when it’s time for the eight annual instalment of our not-so-new-anymore, favourite tradition – the Midnight Swim! Previously, there’s been about a hundred brave souls, but this year, we’re going for a new participant record! This year already on thursday!

We brighten the already bright Midsummer night a little more with tiki torches on the beach, and everyone who goes for a swim will be treated to a hot dog

MIDSUMMER EVE

10.00 | FLOWER WREATH WORKSHOP

Midsummer isn’t just merrymaking and joy, mind you. No, there’s some hard, traditional work to be done. Wreaths to make. A maypole to decorate. We’ll kick start the Midsummer celebration the way we always do, by dressing the maypole and making wreaths. Bring your own flowers, and we’ll provide the twigs and the tying-together-stuff.

12.00 | MIDSUMMER PICNINC

Bring a blanket to sit on, family and others and something to eat for a midsummer picnic together.

13.00 | MYSTERY FISHING GAME

For two gold coins, every child can try their luck and see what’s biting.

13.30 | RAISING THE MAYPOLE

We’ll raise the maypole together, and require the help of both young and old!

14.00 | MAYPOLE DANCING

The best of all Swedish traditions, in our opinion! Is there anything better than some traditional dancing with your kids and some good friends? Maypole dancing – perhaps no further introduction is needed

15.00 | MIDSUMMER GAMES

Following the success of previous years, we’ve brought the Midsummer Games back again, as a matter of course. Here, you compete in teams, in a number of classic Swedish games, such as the relay race and “walking the plank”. The winning team of this prestigious contest earns a really nice award.

MIDSUMMER DAY

11.00 | MIDSUMMER BINGO

Bring the family and see if you can handle the Midsummer Bingo filled with fun and exciting tasks. A reward is promised if you manage to fill the entire bingo card. The bingo can be collected at the golf kiosk.

13.00 | CRAB BAY

What goes on in Crab bay is for you to find out, haha. We’ll give you a couple of hints, though – it’s something you just have to do during the West Coast summer, and they really like clams.

15.00 | FAMILY QUIZ

Infotainment for the whole family!

17.00 | MOVIE NIGHT

On Saturday evening, when our legs are tired from Midsummer dancing the day before, as well as from the midnight swim and the crab fishing, we curl up in front of a family-friendly movie and eat tons of popcorn
